As of September 2024 I am an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin. Before that, I held postdoctoral research positions at the Centre for Philosophical Psychology in Antwerp; and at the Humboldt University in Berlin, at the Lehrstuhl of Professor Tobias Rosefeldt on a project funded by the Leverhulme Trust. I did my PhD in Philosophy at University College London (UCL), supervised by Rory Madden and M. G. F. Martin. I also did the MPhilStud in Philosophy at UCL. Before that, I did a BA in Music at Oxford and an MMus in Musicology at King’s College London.
My research lies at the intersection the philosophy of mind and metaphysics. I am interested in how our metaphysical commitments are reflected in everyday experience, including the social experience of living together. In particular, I am interested in questions about time and causality, and how our ideas about these fundamental categories are implicated in familiar experiences, such as feeling relief that an unpleasant experience is over, or regret for one’s past mistakes, or reminiscing with others about things we have done together. I strive to implement this approach in an interdisciplinary and empirically informed way, and my work incorporates insights and problems from cognitive science, developmental psychology, and the social sciences. I also have a keen interest in Kant, and in the history of analytic philosophy.
Some of my favourite composers are Couperin, Schumann, Ravel, Scriabin and Ligeti.
